Aegis Shield is an active ability available to the MAXes of the New Conglomerate. It is auto granted at rank 1, and upgraded using Certification Points.

While active, the Aegis shield disables the MAX's weapons and causes the user to draw their right arm across their body, projecting a riot shield from it. The shield remains active until it runs out of energy or the ability is turned off by the user, and absorbs all damage that strikes it, including splash damage in front of the MAX, preventing the user from receiving damage.

Aegis Shield has a maximum of 1500 energy, increased up to 2250 at rank 5, using the MAX's own resists to dictate damage received. The ability regenerates 80 energy per second with a 5 second delay before regeneration begins if destroyed. Using the shield drains 40 energy per second.

The shield will prevent any explosive damage received from passing through and damaging the MAX, and items which typically stick to MAXes (such as Anti-Vehicle Grenades, Nano-Repair Grenades, and Sticky Grenades) cannot stick to the shield. If the MAX was reloading an arm when they activated the shield, the process will continue to completion.

To activate this ability, press the Use Ability hotkey (F by default).

Mechanics[]

While active, an Aegis shield prevents any damage that strikes it from damaging the MAX itself, whether directly or indirect "splash" damage. Any damage it receives is drained from its energy pool, using the MAX's resists to dictate how much is drained. Modifiers to the MAX's resists such as Kinetic or Ordnance Armor will affect this calculation, further reducing energy drained from relevant damage types.

If the shield receives damage that exceeds its remaining energy, the excess damage will bleed over damaging the MAX itself and the shield will break, disabling the ability and forcing a five second delay before it begins to regenerate. The ability, if not currently under the break penalty, recharges at a constant rate of 80 energy per second while not active.

Only the abilities' maximum energy is affected by the certification, with the energy regeneration rate being a flat 80 per second—meaning that, at higher ranks, it takes longer to regenerate to full energy (although the same amount of health-per-second is recovered).

Certification[]
