The Eridiani SX5 is the Vanu's offering for a close-quarters submachine gun. It features a moderately high damage output through a combination of good rate-of-fire and decent calibre rounds, although it isn't as lethal as other high-damage options in its class. The weapon is relatively effective at longer ranges with excellent hip cone-of-fire characteristics and a good damage model for dealing with damage fall-off, as well as notably longer maximum damage range, but a very low damage-per-magazine does temper this strength somewhat.
The Eridani SX5's brother, the Sirius SX12 steps down the calibre to boost the rate-of-fire and manages to double the magazine size up to a larger, 50-round battery, though suffers heavier horizontal recoil for these perks.
The Eridani SX5, alongside the AF-4 Cyclone and SMG-46 Armistice, is part of the so-called 'first generation' of submachine guns, as the three were the first wave of faction-specific weapons to be released in the class.
Designed as a replacement for standard iron sights in close-quarters combat, the Holo-Projected Reticle sight creates and accurate dot-and-circle reticle above the top rail. More reticles for this sight available, see full article.
The revolutionary Vanu Holo-Optic reflex utilizes nanotechnology to project a circle and dot reticle. Additionally, it features a 2X magnitude zoom for better performance in urban combat scenarios. More reticles for this sight available, see full article.
Created to better suit carbines and assault rifles for support roles, the OG-4's simple crosshair allows the user to make accurate shots at a distance. It uses 4x magnification perfect for mid-range fights.
A compensator redirects gases upward, reducing vertical recoil by 30%, and increasing hipfire cone of fire by 15%. The added sound pressure causes the player to show on the minimap 35m farther away.
The weapon's muzzle flash and noise generation is reduced, and the player no longer appears on the minimap when firing. In exchange, the weapon's damage falls off 10 meters sooner and bullet velocity is reduced by 15%.
The rail mounted Darklight Flashlight can illuminate hostile cloaked infiltrators and dark areas but the light can give away your position. The light can be turned on and off with Toggle Attachment hotkey.
It is possible to earn both Ribbons and Medals while using the Eridani SX5. Each ribbon is a standard reward for achieving a set amount of kills with the submachine gun. Medals are awarded upon reaching kill milestones with the weapon.
Medals earned with the Eridani SX5 contribute towards the Submachine Guns directive tree.
Trivia[]
The Eridani SX5 is named after 'Epsilon Eridani', a star within the Eridanus constellation. Epsilon Eridani is notable for being one of the closest star systems to Earth which contains a planet, as well as the third closest star to the Earth visible with the naked eye.
