This 4th Anniversary Edition H-V45 was created with a focus on close quarters mobility. Its light weight does not slow the shooter as much as other weapons in its class.
The Hydra - Vanu 45, similar to the GR-22 and TAR, is a close-range assault rifle that sacrifices a large amount of accuracy and damage range for amongst the highest close-range damage-per-second in it class and exceptional mobility.
Similar to those other two weapons, the H-V45 features a tight hip cone-of-fire in addition to the weapon's 0.75x movement speed modifier while aiming-down-sight, in contrast to the typical 0.5x multiplier found on most weapons, making the H-V45 an exceptionally mobile weapon platform, as a trade-off for heavy penalties the weapon suffers when fighting at range.
Designed as a replacement for standard iron sights in close-quarters combat, the Holo-Projected Reticle sight creates and accurate dot-and-circle reticle above the top rail. More reticles for this sight available, see full article.
The revolutionary Vanu Holo-Optic reflex utilizes nanotechnology to project a circle and dot reticle. Additionally, it features a 2X magnitude zoom for better performance in urban combat scenarios. More reticles for this sight available, see full article.
Created to better suit carbines and assault rifles for support roles, the OG-4's simple crosshair allows the user to make accurate shots at a distance. It uses 4x magnification perfect for mid-range fights.
The weapon's muzzle flash and noise generation is reduced, and the player no longer appears on the minimap when firing. In exchange, the weapon's damage falls off 20 meters sooner and bullet velocity is reduced by 15%.
The rail mounted Darklight Flashlight can illuminate hostile cloaked infiltrators and dark areas but the light can give away your position. The light can be turned on and off with Toggle Attachment hotkey.
It is possible to earn both Ribbons and Medals while using the H-V45. Each ribbon is a standard reward for achieving a set amount of kills with the rifle. Medals are awarded upon reaching kill milestones with the weapon.
The 'H' in H-V45 stands for Hydra, the largest constellation visible from Earth and one which is typically depicted as a snake or serpent. Perched on the serpent's back is the constellation Corvus, after which the Corvus VA55 is named.
Prior to the release of PlanetSide 2, the H-V45 was known as the XM9 Centauri. It was briefly renamed to the Hydra VA-45, before earning its current name during the interim between the end of the Beta and the release of the game.
