The Hardlight Barrier is a deployable ability available to the Engineer. It is unlocked through purchase with Certification Points or Daybreak Cash.

Hardlight barriers are chest-height energy barricades that can be deployed almost anywhere, giving the engineer access to a portable 'hard' cover option. Unlike the engineer's other deployables, hardlight barriers are fully immune to small arms and melee type damage, and instead can only be damaged with higher caliber weaponry and explosives.

Hardlight barriers will fully prevent damage from passing through, they will block bullets and the area-of-effect damage from explosions, and are high enough to cover crouching infantry—though their head may still be vulnerable to precise fire.

Hardlight barriers will only disappear when destroyed, if another barrier is placed, or if the engineer changes classes/continent. Thus, though they share the same slot as other abilities, hardlight barriers can be placed alongside the engineer's other deployables if the engineer changes loadout while the barrier remains alive.

The Reserve Hardlight Barrier is a utility slot deployable available to the Engineer and — through A.S.P. — the Heavy Assault. It is unlocked using Certification Points.

Though functionally identical when placed to the standard variant of the barrier, reserve hardlight barriers have two key differences (beside their loadout slot)—the user can only hold two at once, as opposed to the simple cooldown on the standard variant, and reserve hardlight barriers can be placed directly next to other hardlight barriers, whereas standard barriers have a minimum distance they must be placed from other barriers.

There is no difference between the Reserve Hardlight Barrier available to the Engineer, and that which is available to the Heavy Assault.
