This variant of the Archer Anti-Materiel Rifle was designed to operate at short distances, relying on snappy close range optics and quicker draw times in exchange for long range power and magazine size.
The Nanite Systems - Anti-Materiel-8 Shortbow is a variant of the NS-AM7 Archer, with the Shortbow sacrificing much of the Archer's sustained and long-range damage characteristics for snappiness in close quarters, featuring faster reload and chamber times tempered by harsher fall-off, the loss of its splash damage, and a reduction in magazine size.
The Shortbow's chamber and reload times are 0.2 seconds faster than the Archer, but in exchange it suffers a 50 meter loss to its minimum damage range, loses all of its indirect damage characteristics, and has its magazine size reduced by one round. The Shortbow also has a modified attachment pool, with a far reduced selection of optics and access to the Darklight Flashlight and Straight-Pull Bolt traded instead for a Comfort Grip.
The damage values listed below are against standard infantry targets. See Vehicle armor and damage resistance for modifiers against different target types.
The Illuminated Combat Optic line of gunsights from Nanite Systems are praised for their ability to quickly acquire targets in close quarters combat situations.
Many soldiers choose Nanite Systems' popular Illuminated Combat Optic series over stock iron sights for superior target acquisition in both close quarters and low-light situations.
It is possible to earn both Ribbons and Medals while using the NS-AM8 Shortbow. Each ribbon is a standard reward for achieving a set amount of kills with the rifle. Medals are awarded upon reaching kill milestones with the weapon.
All Black Market weapons are now purchasable with Daybreak Cash, as an alternative to the normal A7 currency costs.
Maximum direct damage from 400 to 450.
Headshot multiplier from 2x to 2.4x.
Magazine size from 3 to 4.
Ammo capacity from 36 to 32.
Now uses a default 1x reflex, instead of ironsights.
Dev Note: The Shortbow becomes much more usable after these changes, reeling in some of the tradeoffs it made for its close-range optics and hipfire.
Trivia[]
Alongside the NS-44L Showdown and NS-357 IA, the NS-AM8 Shortbow was previously obtained randomly from winning alerts. The player would need to have participated in at least 90% of an alert, own the related weapon, and succeed against a "very, very, very low" chance of receiving the weapon.[1] This was changed in the Escalation update.
