The Perihelion VXC is a primary weapon available to the Magrider. It is unlocked through purchase with Certification Points or Daybreak Cash.
Unique among tank cannons, the Perihelion features a charging mechanic that functions similar to the charging mechanic found on the Lancer VS22 and in the Spiker's alt-fire mode.
The Perihelion's charge mechanic is dependent on the duration the Fire key is held. Charging for 1 second or less will result in charge level one, 1 to 3 seconds results in level two, and 3 to 5 seconds will result in level three, with the Perihelion automatically firing after 5 seconds of charging. Each charge level fires an additional round and each round fired will consume 1 ammo.
Unlike other weapons in Planetside 2 that feature a charging mechanic, the Perihelion does not fire a stronger projectile with higher charge levels, but instead fires consecutive additional rounds in a quick burst, with 2 rounds being fired at charge level 2, and 3 being fired at level 3.
The projectiles fired by the Perihelion are wide crescents that feature zero bullet drop, allowing for reliable damage at very long ranges. They have a 4 second lifespan and travel at 225 m/s giving a maximum effective range of 900 meters.
