Vanu Lab's Phaseshift Vanu Experimental - S is a unique heat-driven rifle with access to two fire modes, one toting a typical semi-automatic damage model, and the other one similar to that of a bolt-action rifle. Switching between these modes adjusts the Phaseshift's damage-per-shot, as well as how much heat it generates per shot, affecting its capability to kill targets as well as its potential uptime in combat.
Switching between the Phaseshift's two firemodes changes the weapons stats considerably—where most other guns have zero stat changes between firemodes. The semi-automatic firemode generates far less heat per shot, allowing it to fire up to six times without cooling, and has considerably less vertical recoil, whereas the bolt-action firemode increases the weapon's damage, fall-off ranges, and headshot multipliers, in exchange for a drastically increases amount of heat-per-shot as well as far higher vertical recoil, although the weapon does not fire any slower despite this firemode being referred to as "bolt-action."
To switch firemodes on a weapon, press the Switch Fire Group key (B by default).
The 7x magnification on the TSO gives it an edge over the typical standard-issue sniper optics. It uses mil-dot sighting inside of its triangular body.
The Mach-10 scope was designed by the Vanu Sovereignty's internal AdvMat labs. It possesses 10x magnification and mil-dot sighting inside of its circular housing.
The weapon's muzzle flash and noise generation is reduced, and the player no longer appears on the minimap when firing. In exchange, the weapon's damage falls off 20 meters sooner and bullet velocity is reduced by 15%.
The rail mounted Darklight Flashlight can illuminate hostile cloaked infiltrators and dark areas but the light can give away your position. The light can be turned on and off with Toggle Attachment hotkey.
This weapon does not have any ammo type attachments.
It is possible to earn both Ribbons and Medals while using the Phaseshift VX-S. Each ribbon is a standard reward for achieving a set amount of kills with the rifle. Medals are awarded upon reaching kill milestones with the weapon.

Dev Note: This weapon has been revamped to provide two firing modes (semi-auto and bolt-action) that can be swapped between mid-stream. The result should be a weapon that has similar effectiveness to traditional bolt-action weapons, with the flexibility to compete at shorter ranges.
Anti-infantry sniper rifles now use a separate Sniper Rifles resistance (type 20).
Being struck by a sniper rifle now has more prominent audio.
Dev Note: The damage values for this new resistance are equivalent to small arms. This change will allow us to do is modify the bodyshot damage output from Nanoweave, as mentioned above.
Dev Note: Traditional Forward Grips offered no functional benefits to slow firing semi-auto weapons, so swapping them for Comfort Grips (which reduce the equip and unequip time of a weapon,) can be interpreted as a buff in almost all cases.
