The SG-ARX Rutherford is a shotgun available to Nanite Systems Operatives. It is unlocked upon completion of the Master Shotguns directive.
The SG-ARX Rutherford is an 'auraxium' variant of the HSG-400, although deviates quite heavily from its base variant. The Rutherford benefits from greater maximum and minimum damage ranges, an increased minimum damage, and a quicker reload, but suffers a wider pellet spread compared to the 400 model. Most notably however, the weapon fires high velocity explosive slugs when aimed, with a damage profile almost identical to that of the NS-03 Thumper. Unlike the Thumper, the explosive slugs have a headshot multiplier above 1X, allowing them to kill a MAX unit in 6 head shots.
Similar to the HSG-400, the Rutherford's lengthy refire time enforces an 800ms delay before the user can reload or switch weapons, unlike pump-action shotguns which can do so immediately, but the weapon only prevents sprinting for a reduced 250ms after being fired.

Ribbons and Medals[]
It is possible to earn both Ribbons and Medals while using the SG-ARX Rutherford. Each ribbon is a standard reward for achieving a set amount of kills with the shotgun. Medals are awarded upon reaching kill milestones with the weapon.

History[]
March 30, 2022 Update (The Arsenal Update)
- Starting CoF for all shotguns is now 0.15 in all non-jumping/sprinting/falling movement states.
- Pellet spread values while aiming and firing from the hip have been standardized using the wider hipfire values.
- Cone of fire now blooms per shot by 0.3 from the hip, and 0.15 while aiming.
- Dev Note: The above changes aim to reduce the inconsistency and frustration of using these weapons, which was mainly caused by cone of fire spread stacked on top of the pellet spread. These changes are important when the new attachments and updated attachments come into play.
- Hipfire pellet spread from 4.5 to 4.
- Magazine is now visible during a reload.
- Magazine size from 3 to 4.
- Ammunition capacity from 60 to 28. (Back in line with the HSG-400.)
- Hipfire now uses a normal spread and projectile velocity in line with the HSG-400.
- Now fires a single explosive round while aiming down sights, dealing 250 direct damage and 350 indirect damage.
- Dev Note: With these changes, the Rutherford becomes a usable pump action shotgun from the hip that transforms into a Thumper alternative while aiming.
- Undocumented: Now has access to the Extended Magazine, Smart-Choke and MPL
September 29, 2021 Update (Nanite of the Living Dead)
- The delay between firing and being able to sprint again has been reduced for the following weapons:
- SG-ARX Rutherford (NSO only Shotgun)
- Additionally: While aiming down sights, pellet count increased from 6 to 7.
- Undocumented: Sprint and Cloak-after-firing delay reduced from 800ms (refire time) to 250ms.
July 1, 2021 Update (_Integration)
- Added to the game.
Trivia[]
- The SG-ARX Rutherford's name references Lord Ernest Rutherford—a physicist from New Zealand.
