Shotguns excel in close quarters and indoors, where they can quickly blow even the toughest of enemies to pieces. However, their performance suffers at medium range and longer.

There are 5 types of shotguns for each faction, a "low-capacity short-reload semi-auto shotgun", a "high-capacity long-reload semi-auto shotgun", a "fully automatic shotgun", a "heavy pump action shotgun", and a pump action shotgun.

Mechanics

Unlike most weapons ingame, shotguns fire a moderate number of pellets per shot instead of a single bullet. The amount of pellets in each shot and their damage differs from one weapon to another, with the highest number of pellets being heavy pump-action shotungs, followed by standard pump-actions and then the rest of the shotguns. Due to the high damage and number of pellets, both the heavy and the normal pump-actions shotguns can kill in one shot at close range.

Shotguns also have an unique statistic, called Pellet Spread. This value represents how much the pellets will separate from one another after leaving the barrel, with lower numbers marking a more concentrated spread. The full-auto shotguns have the highest pellet spread, followed by the heavy pump-action shotguns and directive shotguns when fired from the hip. All other shotguns have a similar pellet spreads, with the exception of the NS Baron G5 and the NC05 Jackhammer that have the narrowest pellet spread.

Underbarrel shotguns function similarly to the heavy pump-action shotgun, but they are single-shot and lack a magazine. The NC05 Jackhammer heavy gun is different compared to other shotguns. It has a higher base accuracy while aiming down sights and has a 3 burst fire mode. It cannot utilize slug ammunition and can only be used by NC Heavy Assaults. The NC08 Mag-Scatter is a sidearm available for all NC classes (except the MAX) and does 100x6 damage. Its damage dropoff ranges are longer than other shotguns, and its minimum damage at range is 60x6 instead of 50x6 like most semi-auto shotguns. Like the NC05 Jackhammer, it cannot equip slug ammunition. 

Use of the Slug Ammunition will change the shotgun's signature buckshot spread to a single, high-damage round, similar to a sniper rifle bullet, with no pellet spread. At close range, the damage for each shot will be slightly reduced compared to the standard buckshot, while increasing considerably at longer ranges. Pump-action shotguns slugs deal heavier damage but lose the ability to one-hit enemy infantry unless an headshot is achieved. Note that VS shotguns using this will experience bullet drop.
