Slug Ammunition

The weapon now fires an accurate, high-velocity slug dealing high damage, falling off towards the weapon's minimum damage range.
Empire:

Slug Ammunition is an ammo type.

While loaded, Slug ammunition condenses the shotgun's multiple pellets into one singular slug that deals most of the shotgun's damage in one bullet. This slug typically deals less damage than the shotgun's typical buckshot would were all pellets were to hit, but is not subject to pellet spread—leaving cone-of-fire as the only limiting factor in accuracy, although slugs increase the size of the shotgun's hip cone-of-fire.

Effects[]

The damage dealt by slugs is dependent on the fire mode of the shotgun in which they are loaded. Even though shotguns within a "fire mode class" may deal different damage to each other normally, slugs deal the same damage within a class no matter which shotgun they are loaded in, which may be particularly pertinent when considering the usage of slugs on pump action shotguns.

Terran and New Conglomerate shotguns retain their listed velocity, whereas the NS Baron G5 and any shotguns produced by the Vanu Sovereignty have their muzzle velocity set to 300m/s while slugs are loaded. Shotguns innately have a lower gravity than most weapons, and slug ammunition does not affect this, though Vanu options do not retain the faction's 'no bullet drop' trait with slugs loaded.

Besides ballistics, pellet count, and damage-per-shot, slugs have no effect on any other statistics—such as headshot multipliers or maximum/minimum damage ranges.

Semi-Automatic and Automatic[]

All semi-automatic and automatic shotguns, such as the FA1 Barrage, AS16 NightHawk, Mauler S6 and Pandora VX25, have their damage values changed to the following;

  • 450 maximum damage
  • 300 minimum damage

Pump-Action[]

All pump action shotguns, such as the GD-66 Claw and TAS-16 Blackjack, have their damage values changed to the following;

  • 650 maximum damage
  • 500 minimum damage

History[]

April 5, 2022 Hotfix

  • Semi-auto shotguns now use the same Slug Ammunition as automatic shotguns, changing their damage from 600-400 to 450-300. (This value was mistakenly shown as 475 damage before, both in-game and patch notes, that's been remedied as well.)

March 30, 2022 Update (The Arsenal Update)

  • Slug ammo now comes in 3 flavors with different damage ranges with independent hipfire cone of fire values. It's intended for semi-auto shotguns to be the most desirable to use with slug ammo, where others have steeper tradeoffs.
    • 650-500 damage, pump shotguns.
    • 600-400 damage, semi-auto shotguns.
    • 475-300 damage, auto-shotguns.

March 20, 2019 Update

  • Changes impacting all NC MAX shotgun weapons:
  • Slug Ammunition attachment has been removed and refunded.
