Generally, they come in two forms: Bolt Action and Semi-Automatic. Bolt Action sniper rifles can kill in one shot to the head, at the cost of having to manually chamber a new round after each shot. Semi-Automatic rifles sacrifice the stopping power of their bolt action cousins, in exchange for the ability to rapidly fire follow-up shots. There are a few odd ducks: the Terran Republic's TRAP-M1 has a burst fire mode that makes it more suited to medium range; the Vanu Sovereignty's Phaseshift VX-S uses a heat fire mode and has two firemodes (a semi-auto-like, in both fire rate and damages; and a heavy damage but quickly overheating one) allowing for both long range and medium range combat, the New Conglomerate's AF-8 RailJack takes 0.2s after pressing the trigger to fire but has the highest projectile velocity of all game's weapons; and the NS-AM7 Archer and the NS-AM8 ShortBow are anti-material rifles available exclusively to the Engineer class that are capable of dealing high damage to MAX units and all vehicles.
